The Goal:
I was commissioned in the summer of 2025 about whether I would be able to design and print a castle-themed Post-It Note organizer with space at the top for a small Lego princess Minifigure.

Project Description:
While the client specified the castle theme, I was given a lot of creative freedom in the design. In OnShape, I created a Post-It Note organizer with space for eight Post-It Note pads. On the outside I added bricks in three sizes and on the top of the tower I modeled a small balcony, sized for a Lego Minifigure to stand and look out from the tower.
I also put a layer of PETG filament between the PLA supports and the PLA model for ease of removing the supports with minimal damage.

What went right:
The actual design of the tower went quickly, with the dimensions of the tower structure changing very little after their first drafting.
The balcony was more challenging, with symmetry being the biggest obstacle. But in the end it printed cleanly and was one of the nicest elements of the print.

What went wrong:
Print orientation as well as playing with tolerances were the main challenges with this project. The first print of the whole tower I printed it with minimal supports but the surface on the print bed was a different texture than the other walls. In the second and final print I reoriented the tower and it printed very cleanly.
Moreover, installing the trays was initially a tight fit, but after some tweaking they slid cleanly into each slot.

Outcome:
The picture at the right shows the Post-It Note castle organizer in its home, sitting on my client’s work desk.
